The Leadership Scholars Program is a two-year program designed to prepare teachers for leadership roles in urban schools. Participants successfully completing the program receive a master's degree in school leadership and a state leadership licensure. Plan of Operation The program spans six semesters. During that time, participants are actively engaged in problem-based instruction; clinical field experiences; local, state, and national conferences; and specially designed seminars. These activities are incorporated into five program modules. Program Modules The five program modules are: (1) Recruitment and Selection, (2) Instructional Program, (3) Clinical Field Experience, (4) Action Research, and (5) Culminating Experience. The collective strength of these five modules enable current and future school administrators to grow professionally through group interaction, individual assessment and study, simulation activities, actual field experiences, problem-solving situations, and action research. The modules provide emergent school leaders the opportunity to develop the skills and attributes necessary to make decisions using a participatory approach and to lead people in a learning community in a manner that will enhance learning outcomes for a highly diverse student population.
