The University of Memphis College of Education Assessment System (COEAS) is an organizing framework and an operations model that delineates how the College of Education (COE) and all its constituent programs—through ongoing self-study—provides regular and comprehensive assessment of four essential domains: applicants and candidate qualifications, candidate proficiencies, graduates‘ competence, and unit and program operations and quality. COEAS provides a common framework for assessing the COE as a unit, and all of its constituent programs, including programs preparing teachers and other school professionals—initial B.S.Ed. and M.A.T./Licensure-only teacher education programs, advanced continuing education M.S. programs for teachers, and advanced preparation M.S. programs for other school professionals. The University of Memphis COEAS is designed for three purposes: to monitor growth of candidate knowledge, skills, and dispositions; to determine the efficacy of curriculum and assessment of all COE programs; and to structure periodic analysis of data aimed at improving unit and program operations and quality.
