The Mission of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences focuses on 1) the developing awareness and understanding of the various benefits associated with exercise, health, nutrition and sport; 2) graduating students who are capable of fulfilling leadership roles in the education, exercise, health, nutrition, leisure and sport industries in highly diverse communities; 3) expanding the body of theoretical and applied understanding of exercise, health, nutrition and sport related issues through innovative intra- and inter-disciplinary research; and 4) providing services to local and national communities.

The Department is committed to becoming a global leader in the broad fields of Health and Sport Sciences. Embracing Exercise, Health, Nutrition, Leisure, and Sport, faculty members provide undergraduate and graduate students with top-quality, innovative and relevant educational experiences. While imparting knowledge is central to our mission, faculty afford equal importance to the nurturing of skills associated with problem solving, decision-making and communication, as well as those essential to the acquisition, critique and management of information. Eleven departmental laboratories support the research of faculty and provide opportunities for modern and competitive educational and research opportunities for almost 500 undergraduate majors and more than 50 M.S students.

The Admissions and Advising links on this home page provide information, instructions, and access to forms for both prospective and current students.  The Study Abroad link provides information about our annual London Sport and Culture in the Global Marketplace program and our biennial Belize Nutrition and Natural Healing program. The Syllabi link directs you to information about course objectives, content, and requirements. The Labs and Bureaus link describes the nature of research underway in each of the department’s 11 laboratories. The remaining links provide information about each of the department’s four undergraduate programs, five graduate programs, and teaching licensure program.
