Residency

The University of Memphis Dietetic Internship and Residency Program
Department of Health Sport Sciences
Clinical Residency in Nutrition
NUTR 7482

The residency class is completed the fourth (fall) semester of the internship and residency program. The residency receives one hour of graduate credit, and this is considered the culminating clinical experience for the program. The residency program's purpose is to demonstrate advanced level competence in the practice of dietetics including provision of nutrition. The 120 hours of the residency are devoted to clinical practice in an approved site and is planned in conjunction with the internship or course director.

This experience must be clinical in nature and should provide the student advanced training in their area of primary interest. Preparations for this component, including approval of the experience and objectives by the internship or course director and the site preceptor, must be completed by the 1st week of November of the fall semester of the second year of the internship. Interns must also successfully defend their master's project or thesis before beginning their residency. See the timeline for deadlines leading up to this. Competencies and objectives for this experience are planned and written by the intern and approved by the internship or course director and the preceptor at the site.  An example of competencies used by a recent intern is included for your use.
