Dear Prospective Physical Education Teacher Education Student

Come and join the University of Memphis Physical Education Teacher Education program. Our faculty members are strongly committed to making a difference in the lives of America’s youth! Our dynamic programs provide continual hands on education in local schools, personal attention from faculty members in small classroom settings, and training on cutting edge research. Immediate accesses to local schools for teaching and research opportunities are available. Moreover, you will be provided multiple graduate assistantship, undergraduate scholarship, and financial aid opportunities.

At the U of M, you will have the opportunity to join an exciting and productive research program. Our core faculty members have overlapping research interests related to physical education. They have been awarded internally funded grants from the University of Memphis Faculty Research Grant Program, the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change, and the Center for Community Health. They have also received externally funded grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, BRIDGES Inc., and American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Research Consortium. They are involved in several external evaluation contracts through the Center for Research in Educational Policy at the University of Memphis and are currently collaborating with other researchers on National Institutes of Health research grant proposals.

Our core faculty team’s research has been disseminated at local, national and international conferences. Their research articles have appeared in refereed journals such as Sex Roles, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sports, Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, Journal of Sport Behavior, Quest, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Perceptual and Motor Skills, and Journal of Experiential Education. In addition, they have published articles in professional journals such as the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and Strategies.

Apply now to become a part of this vital program! Deadlines for graduate applications are August 1st for Fall admission and December 1st for Spring admission.
