Sport Sales Training Center The University of Memphis Bureau of Sport and Leisure Commerce serves as home to the newly renovated Sport Sales Training Center. The training center resembles a sales calling center commonly found in today’s professional sport businesses. The Memphis Redbirds and The University Of Memphis Together As One The Sport Sales Training Program began in Fall, 2005 as a collaborative initiative between the University of Memphis and the Memphis Redbirds, Class AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. A select group of graduate and undergraduate Sport and Leisure Commerce students pursuing careers in sales are chosen for training program participation each semester. Students begin the program with a seven week intense course in sales training equivalent to typical professional training sessions administered by most professional sport leagues and teams. Training includes weekly interaction with members of the Redbirds sales staff, role-play sessions, mock sales calls, script preparation and visit with nationally recognized sales executives and trainers. After successfully completing of the seven week training session, the sales campaign begins with students initiating calls to Memphis existing Redbirds plan holders as well as prospective plan holders. Students enrolled in the sales training program experience life similar to that of a Memphis Redbirds employee. Each is assigned a list of existing accounts as well as access to the Redbirds’ data base system for managing all account communication and documentation throughout the course. While sales calls are generally conducted from the Bureau Sport Sales Center opportunity occasionally exists to join the Redbirds staff at the AutoZone Park Offices. Students are also included in Redbirds’ functions such as the Season Ticket Renewal Party, Season Ticket Sales Blitz, and hosting the Minor League Baseball Conference.
