Welcome to the Middle School Education Program at the University of Memphis. We are a part of the Instruction and Curriculum Leadership Department (ICL) in the College of Education. Below is current information about our Bachelor’s and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program offered in Middle School Education (MSED).

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the department is to support the overall mission and goals of The University of Memphis and The College of Education by providing leadership and quality programs through excellence in graduate teacher education, instruction, curriculum, and instructional design and technology. These programs target in-service teacher and pre-service as well as other instructional curricular leaders, designers, and developers specializing in middle adolescent through adult level pedagogy and operational domains. The Middle School Division of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership within The University of Memphis is committed to developing teachers who are inspired to engage in critical thinking, problem solving, and lifelong learning. Completion of our middle school teacher preparation program signifies that candidates for licensure have developed knowledge and skills in pedagogy and in the disciplines, which address performance outcomes required by the state of Tennessee.
